SANDRA MATHIS !

Sandra Mathis - GMathis

Sandra Mathis began scrapbooking six years ago when she was given her “first real up-to-date scrapbooking supplies" as a Christmas gift from her daughter. This started what she refers to as “her addiction”. Her husband, on the other hand, calls it her “collection”.

Sandy has always been crafty, and as a child was always coloring, collecting things and making scrapbooks with the old photo corners and crayons. As she matured, she learned a few more crafts. She enjoyed sewing, counted-cross-stitch, knitting and even oil painting.

She loves scrapbooking for several reasons. “First, it is a way to pass on memories of day-to-day activities and traditions (new and old) to my grandchildren. Secondly, I love playing with all the new and exciting products that are constantly becoming available”. She also adds, “I have learned so much these past 6 years and would love to go back and redo the first albums, but my family loves seeing how my techniques have changed”.

Sandy calls herself a simple scrapper. “I really seem to favor clean layouts with some embellishments, but not lumpy. I do try all the new techniques, but have found a few that I use all the time.” These include paper tearing, chalking, combining different elements, adding ribbon or fiber and she has just started using Tim Holtz Distress Inks! “I have just gotten into making cards and have added that to my crafting, trying to make a card each time I make a layout. I am really into all the sketches here at The Shaker Box, and love BH Sketch books. I also love Simple Scrapbook and Simply Sentiments magazines to get inspiration and ideas”.

Married for almost 41 years to a wonderful man, Sandy has 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren, “..which is pretty obvious, if you’ve seen my layouts”, she states. She lives just outside a small Texas town (pop. 1054) on 30 acres. She and her husband share their space with 7 Texas Longhorn Cattle, 4 very spoiled dogs and “enough wildlife to keep us entertained for hours”. She and her husband are retired, she from being a SAHM and he from a 30 year career with IBM, and are truly busier now than before retirement.

Sandy is not on any design teams yet, but hopes to be on one someday. Being published is not a top priority for her, although she does submit some layouts and cards. She very excited, however, about being asked by AutoFx Software to use one of her layouts in a new software being developed for scrappers. The software is due out after the beginning of 2005.

Sandy also had this to say about The Shaker Box: “I can’t seem to get enough of The Shaker Box since finding it in mid-August. I feel I have made some new friends and have been challenged on many fronts to think outside the box and to use more of my stash. Everyone here is so friendly, helpful and encouraging, that it is sometimes hard to stay away and get something done.”

Thank you Sandy for becoming a special member of The Shaker Box! Please visit Sandy's gallery today to truly be inspired.
