September Page Goal Challenge Winner
Each month, Shaker Designer Kristi likes to challenge the Shaker Box members to set a page goal and then go for it. Throughout the month we all post how we are doing on our goals to keep one another accountable. Everyone that meets or exceeds their goal has their name added to a drawing.
We are happy to announce that one of our hard working Shaker Box Interns has won the Page Goal drawing for the month of September. Sharon set her monthly goal for 10 layouts and exceeded her goal by creating 11 layouts. Way to go Sharon!
If you need some motivation to get some pages done this month, come and join the October Page Goal Challenge. We will keep one another accountable to get those layouts done.

Use Your Stash Challenge
Time to use up some of that stash, stick to a budget, and create some valuable scrapping space, and best of all get some layouts completed!! The Use Your Stash Challenge will help you do all of these things, if you are brave enough to try it!
We had two winners in the September Stash Challenge, Mackey/Mac & Sandra/gmathis.
Mackey won a prize for being the first one to reach 1000 points.
Sandy won for having the overall highest points total with 1055 points.
Way to go, ladies! That is the way to scrap and use up LOTS of your stash!

Theme & Technique Challenge
Every month, The Shaker Box focuses on one theme and one technique.
Our October theme is Friendship. With such a special topic, what better way to document it than creating a touching layout that will capture those treasured moments forever. The Shaker Box Designers have created some wonderful Friendship layouts for you to discover in the Shaker Box Gallery. Please visit our gallery today and add your own wonderful creations for our community to admire!
Our October technique is Monochromatic. This technique is popular for highlighting and focusing on your photos. A monochromatic color scheme also greatly enhances the ambiance of a layout.
Visit our Technique Gallery to see the layouts that the Designers and members have uploaded. What will your next monochromatic creation be?

Shake It Up Challenges
Shaker Designer Mickey will inspire you each week with a new layout challenge. Challenges can help motivate you in getting a layout done and can also create some interesting diversity. So try something today you normally wouldn't and have fun!
You can see all of Mickey's Challenges in our Shaker Challenge forum.
We had many fun challenges issued during our Grand Opening weekend. Since not everyone was able to complete all of those challenges, this week Mickey has challenged us all to complete one of the Grand Openings challenges. Which one will you choose?
----------------- Card Challenges
If you enjoy creating cards with your scrapbooking supplies, then you will love the challenges that Shaker Designer Jen is posting to our Challenge forum.
You can join the monthly card challenge by setting a card goal and posting to the thread when you complete one! Lets see how many cards you can make in one month.
Jen also announces a new specific card challenge each week. This week's challenge is to do a card inspired from an ad that you've recently seen. Advertising is a wonderful inspirational tool! Magazine ads, billboard ads and even commercials can inspire you to use different color combinations or organize elements on the card differently. You may even find a clever catch phrase or saying that would be perfect for your creations. Either way, use those ads to create a unique and different card! We would love to see them! .

Halloween 101!
Night-time Photography Tips
Halloween photographs consists of spooks, ghouls and night time. So, how do you do it? FLASH. It is the best way to lighten things up, but you will be fighting red eye. If your camera has it, use the red-eye reducer. You may also try this trick: Have your participants look into their flashlights just prior to snapping the picture. That will shrink the size of the pupil opening. If that doesn't work, you may want to bring it home and touch it up on the computer. If all else fails, there are red-eye pens out there. Of course, given the nature of the holiday, red-eye may add some character to your little spooks pictures.
Get in close. You will want to be close to your trick-or-treater as they run to the door for their goodies, so plan ahead. Make sure you get in there, and fill in the frame. Try and get in at an angle that will allow you to get their faces and not their backsides.
If you want to take pictures of lit pumpkins or Halloween lights, you have a couple of options:
Option One - Turn off your flash and put your camera on a tripod or other sturdy surface (that's a MUST). Adding additional candles inside the pumpkins will really improve the glow. Placing candles behind and around your pumpkins will also add a nice effect. Pumpkin photos taken with the flash turned off are best taken at dusk and not when it is completely dark.
Option Two - Use the night setting on your camera (with flash). That function tries to balance a dark figure and a lit background. You will loose some but not all of the pumpkin's glow. Use this as a back-up option in case your photos without flash turn out blurry.
The best shots of your little ghouls may be the ones you take in the light, the ones of their costumes, and those you take right before sunset, just enough light to capture the spirit. Remember to take extra film and a jacket, take extra shots and most of all, remember to have a safe and FUN Halloween!
