Description:	Journaling: The new year has always been an important time for my family. There are so many superstitions that took place when midnight rolled around, sometimes it felt like it was hard to keep track. The biggest belief was however something was when midnight hit, that's how it would remain for the rest of the year. For example, we all had to be together, all of our rooms had to be clean, and we had to be up and celebrating. Otherwise, if someone was missing s/he would not be around us much that year if at all; or our rooms would be a mess all year; or s/he would be grumpy for the year. Coins would be thrown around the main living areas; pots and pans banging with the door wide open; everyone would go around greeting each other; some would be wearing clothes with circle prints; and we would eat pancit (filipino noodles) and round foods, like grapes. It was always important to have food at the table and to eat a least a little bit; This was to make sure we always had food to eat and filled bellies during the upcoming year. Pancit during a special occasion, represents long life. Round foods and coins thrown around represents money and prosperity. Doors wide open with pots and pans banging lured in the good spirits and scared off the bad. It was a time to celebrate life and prosperity to come. my first exchange "sister" used to have to put on a bunch of panties- we rolled!! lol! and I think eating the grapes... I will have to ask her... lol!
